Responsibilities

The Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating production and operational activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff or managers/supervisors:

  • Oversee all activities directly related to assembling products and meeting safety, quality, delivery schedules and cost requirements.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of businesses or departments concerned with the production, or distribution of products to include product assembly, painting/powder coating, as well as staging and staffing of manufacturing processes to ensure CIS meets delivery and customer obligations.
  • Review production forecasts and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.
  • Manage staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties.
  • Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, , organization officials, and staff members as necessary.
  • Determine staffing requirements, and interview, hire and train new employees, or oversee those personnel processes.
  • Plan and direct activities such as  staff meetings and events coordinating with other department heads as required.
  • Work closely with Materials Management to coordinate materials and resources necessary for scheduled builds are in-place to meet company and customer delivery requirements.
  • Analyze KPIs such as throughput, quality yields, on-time delivery, and labor efficiency to identify areas for improvement and ensure alignment with operational goals.
  • Collaborate daily with Engineering, Materials, Supply Chain, and Quality Assurance to resolve bottlenecks, address technical issues, and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Maintain adherence to ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 requirements, ITAR/EAR export regulations, and internal quality protocols through oversight and documentation review.
  • Implement and monitor Lean and Six Sigma practices to optimize workflow, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency and product quality.
  • Work with the Materials Management team to ensure required components and resources are available for scheduled builds and customer delivery commitments.

 

OPERATING HOURS AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • This position anticipates on-site work with regular hours, Monday-Friday. Occasional telework may be considered and will be discussed as a part of the interview process.

 

WORK LOCATION AND TRAVEL:

  • Primary work location will be the CIS Secure headquarters manufacturing facility located in Ashburn, VA. Minimal local travel is anticipated for this position.

Qualifications

CLEARANCE:

  • None required.
  • All candidates must be a US Citizen or permanent resident at the the time of application.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a Quality of Manufacturing related field.
  • Graduate degree, desired.

CERTIFICATION(S):

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt from ASQ or other credible organization, desired.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Fifteen (15) years related experience working in or managing complex manufacturing operations, ideally in electronics or electromechanical assembly.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, meet aggressive production schedules, and drive accountability at all levels.

  • Previous experience working in an organization that is ISO 9001 certified.
  • Hands-on experience implementing continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher preferred). Ability to analyze operational data, streamline workflows, and reduce waste while maintaining quality and compliance.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 quality systems, as well as working knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR). Experience in a highly regulated, security-sensitive environment.
  • Comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems to manage production planning, inventory, and resource allocation. Ability to interpret system data for decision-making and process optimization.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • AS9100 experience.

The employee is frequently required to stand; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds assisted and unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  Loud noises are associated with the manufacturing environment.

This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base salary for the advertised job, promotion, or transfer opportunity. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. The actual salary offered may vary based on various factors including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, education, geographic location, as well as internal equity, and alignment to market data.

Job Type: Full-time (hybrid)

Pay Range: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
